The City Executive Office in Gothenburg is the administration of the municipal council and the municipal assembly. The office's mission is to support the municipal council in leading, coordinating, and monitoring the activities, economy, and other strategic planning of the City of Gothenburg.

JOB DESCRIPTION

We are now looking for a temporary city lawyer with a focus on civil law. The position is for 6 months with a desired start as soon as possible.

The Legal Department at the City Executive Office is responsible for legal matters concerning the municipal council and the municipal assembly and assists the organization of the City Executive Office with legal support. The department's mission also includes providing advice and support in legal matters to the city's administrations and companies, conducting training, being responsible for internal dispute resolution within the city, and representing the City of Gothenburg in court and before other authorities.

The Legal Department has a total of 14 employees, consisting of 1 department head, 11 city lawyers, and 2 labor law attorneys. The department is part of the Legal Area led by the chief city lawyer.

In the role of city lawyer, you will be an advisor to the city's administrations and companies in several areas of law, primarily within civil law, such as contract law, corporate law, and tort law. Furthermore, the tasks include drafting, reviewing, and interpreting contracts, acting as a representative in courts, and providing opinions on various legal issues. Additionally, you will conduct training and work on preparing cases for the Gothenburg municipal council.

QUALIFICATIONS

You have a law degree (jur.kand. or equivalent) and several years of experience in qualified legal work at a law firm, in court, or within public administration. Notary qualification is an advantage, as well as fiscal and assessor competence or equivalent. Experience working in a politically governed organization is also an advantage.

You have very good knowledge in the field of civil law, particularly regarding contract law, corporate law, tort law, and procedural law. Furthermore, the role of city lawyer also requires basic knowledge in municipal law, administrative law, public access and confidentiality, as well as data protection. An interest in climate issues may also be valuable for this position.

To thrive in this role, we believe you are an outgoing person with a service mindset who easily builds good relationships with your clients. The work requires attention to detail, good judgment, and the ability to work independently and in a structured manner. The City Executive Office requires good communication skills, both verbally and in writing.
